Butler Area Cooperative Preschool
About our School
Butler Preschool has been operating since 1956, and we are located in the Key Learning Community School North Campus at 2411 Indianapolis Ave., Indianapolis, IN. We are proud of our long history of dedicated and creative teachers and families.
CLASSROOM PROGRAM
Our daily program includes play room activities, art and science activities, dramatic play, snack time and outdoor play or utilizing the Key School gymnasium. We are frequent visitors to the Key schools Wednesday Programs where the children watch and participate in the Young Audiences programs and other entertaining and informative visitors (dance performers, singers, plays, Firefighters, etc.). We have monthly field trips to enrich the classroom focus of the month. Such trips are to the Fire Department, Children’s Museum, Connors Prairie, Zoo and Pumpkin patch.
PARENT EDUCATION
The Co-op holds parent education meetings to
discuss school business and classroom concerns. These meetings often feature
speakers who offer information on topics of special interest to parents of
preschoolers.
FAMILY RESPONSIBILITIES
Depending on the class size, a parent
participates in 1 to 3 class sessions per month. In addition to classroom
participation, each family helps maintain the school by holding a school “job”,
chosen from a long list of possibilities at the beginning of the school year.
CLASSROOM PARTICIPATION TRAINING
In the fall, new participating adults in Butler Co-op attend a 6-hour orientation, sponsored by the Indiana Council of Preschool Cooperatives (ICPC), to discuss
Co-op philosophy, child development, and classroom techniques.
The Butler Area Preschool Center does not
discriminate on the basis of race, color, national and ethnic origin in
administration of its educational and admission policies.
The Butler Area Preschool Center is a member of the Indiana Council of Preschool Cooperatives.
